Database of California shipwrecks

The California State Lands Commission assembled a database of more than 1,500 shipwrecks up and down the state between 1540 and about 1990, including approximate latitude and longitude and other information for each one.

I have augmented that with information on other wrecks in the the San Francisco Bay Area. The map above includes only the first 100 ships listed in any search. Use the search tool change what you see on the map.

Get more information on any ship by clicking the "Details" when you mouse over map pins or by clicking "Details" in the list below. Information will appear below the search box.

In the map, markers color code what powered the ships. Green markers indicate no data on ship power.
